Cisco Nexus 1000V no longer supported by VMware
This is a harsh title and surely will have waken some of you up, didn’t it? Well it’s true but not as bad as it looks. For a few weeks we heard that VMware would stop support on the Nexus 1000v and this seemed odd to us.
The Cisco Nexus 1000V was sold in a VMware vSphere Enterprise plus bundle or sold alone. Still the VMware site offers you the Cisco Nexus 1000V but if we have to believe the Cisco site this will change.
If we look at the Cisco blog it clearly states:
VMware has decided to no longer offer Nexus 1000V through VMware sales or sell support for the Nexus 1000V through the VMware support organization as of Feb 2nd 2015
Does this effect me?
It does effect you if you have a support contract with VMware that includes the Cisco Nexus 1000V, you might have to consider transferring that support to Cisco.
There are no other implications, VMware will support Cisco Nexus 1000V and vice versa, it’s only that VMware won’t be selling it anymore and won’t be selling support for it anymore. So my title was right for VMware stops supporting it (sales wise) and wrong for it’s still supported, at least I got your attention. Check out the blog mentioned below and be prepared.
Do I need to take action?
Yes and No, yes do and check your support contract you might have to contact your VMware representative to talk about this and no because everything will work as it did yesterday.
